Annual Events
Easter Egg Hunt – Kent Park and Recreation and the Kent Lions Club sponsor the annual hunt on the lawn outside Kent Town Hall, 41 Kent Green Boulevard. The event is open to Kent youngsters, ages 10 and under, and features two separate hunts: ages 5 and under and ages 6 to 10. The 2011 event will take place Saturday, April 16. The inclement weather date is April 23.
Halloween Safety Program – Kent Park and Recreation and the Kent Lions Club provide “glow-in-the-dark” necklaces to trick-or-treaters of all ages on Halloween. The Park and Rec director distributes necklaces on Halloween between 5 and 7 p.m. on North Main Street, adjacent the Kent Memorial Library. The program promotes safety for pedestrians in Kent’s neighborhoods on Halloween.
Holiday/Winter Ice Skating – times and location will be announced for 2010 Thanksgiving and Christmas skating and sticks and pucks at Kent and South Kent Schools’ ice rinks. A park pass is required ($35 for Kent residents; free to Kent residents ages 65 and older; $65 for non-residents or $5/person for a day pass) and can be purchased in the Park and Rec office or at the rink during skating times.
Winter Skating will take place Sunday afternoons from noon to 2 at the South Kent School ice rink; 2010-11 dates will be announced.
Participants at open skate must wear hat and skates on the ice; sticks and pucks' participants must wear helmet and skates on the ice.
Hotshot Contest – the annual event is open to Kent youngsters ages 9 to 15 (as of Dec. 31) and matches participants’ basketball skills against the clock. Participants attempt to make baskets from five “hotspots” on one-half the basketball court in three one-minute rounds. The top scorer in each of three age divisions for boys and girls advances to the regional round of the contest. The event typically is held in early January. The 2011 date will be announced. Free registration is required and will be accepted the day of the event.
Kids Fishing Derby - 9 a.m. to noon at the Kid's Fishing Pond, Town Garage, Route 341. The 2011 date will be announced. Open to Kent youngsters, ages 12 and under. Prizes will be awarded for the smallest, longest and most fish caught. One prize per participant. Worms will be provided. Call 860-927-1003.
Kids Fun Run – held annually in conjunction with the annual Kent Pumpkin Run at 11:15 a.m. at Kent Town Hall, Kent Green Boulevard. Open to youngsters ages 10 and under; features a half-mile and mile timed runs. Participants will receive a race bib and a prize.
